Practical Guide to Water Purification Equipment Maintenance

The maintenance of water purification equipment directly affects its purification effect and service life, necessitating the establishment of standardized operation and inspection procedures. Routine maintenance includes observing the equipment's operating status, checking inlet and outlet water pressure, and recording the product water flow rate and TDS value. These basic data help to promptly detect abnormal trends, such as a decrease in product water flow or an increase in conductivity, which may indicate filter clogging or membrane fouling.

Filter replacement is the core task of maintenance. PP cotton filters are generally replaced every 3–6 months, and activated carbon filters every 6–12 months, with the specific interval depending on the raw water quality and water consumption. Ultrafiltration or reverse osmosis membranes typically have a lifespan of 2–3 years, but this is greatly affected by water quality. It is recommended to establish a replacement reminder mechanism to avoid prolonged use leading to secondary contamination or decreased system efficiency.

Regular cleaning and disinfection are also essential. After long-term operation, bacteria can easily grow on the filter surface and the inner walls of the pipes, forming a biofilm. Specialized cleaning agents are needed for circulating cleaning. For RO systems, chemical cleaning is recommended every 6 months to restore membrane flux. Ultraviolet lamps should be replaced every 1–2 years to ensure a sterilization efficiency of at least 80%.

In addition, electrical connections, pump and valve operation, and sealing should be checked regularly to prevent leaks or electrical malfunctions. For equipment with a water storage tank, the tank should be emptied and cleaned regularly to prevent stagnant water from breeding microorganisms. It is recommended that a comprehensive performance test be conducted annually by a professional, including product water quality, flow recovery rate, and system sealing.
