Product Overview
Ultrafiltration (UF) is a pressure-driven membrane separation technology. Its membrane pore size is usually 1–100 nm (0.001–0.1 μm). It has a molecular weight cut-off of about 1,000–100,000 Da. It uses cross-flow filtration at room temperature. It has no phase change and low energy consumption. It can efficiently retain colloids, bacteria, viruses and macromolecular organics. It keeps small molecules and inorganic salts.

Core Equipment & Technical Points

Main Membrane Modules
• Hollow fiber type (submerged/external pressure): It has a small footprint and low cost. It is commonly used in municipal water supply and water treatment.
• Tubular/plate type: It has strong anti-pollution performance. It is suitable for high-viscosity/high SS industrial wastewater.
• Spiral wound type: It has a large filtration area. It is suitable for concentration.
Typical Process
1. Raw water enters the system.
2. It goes through pretreatment (sand filtration, activated carbon filtration or security filtration).
3. It flows into the UF main unit for cross-flow filtration. The system also uses backwashing or chemical cleaning to maintain performance.
4. The produced water is ready for use or further advanced treatment (like RO or EDI).
Key Parameters
• Operating pressure: 0.1–0.4 MPa
• Effluent turbidity: Usually <0.1 NTU
• SDI: <3
These parameters meet the inlet requirements of RO or ultrafiltration systems.
Core Advantages & Shortcomings
• Advantages: It uses physical filtration. It needs no chemicals. It has a high degree of automation. It has a small footprint. Its effluent quality is stable.
• Shortcomings: Membrane fouling needs to be controlled. Concentrated water needs proper treatment.
Core Application Markets
1. Municipal Water Supply & Drinking Water
• Applications: Surface water algae and bacteria removal, waterworks upgrading, centralized water supply in villages and towns, direct drinking water supply.
• Effluent Standard: It meets GB 5749. The turbidity is <0.1 NTU.
• Target Customers: Waterworks, rural water supply stations.
2. Electronics & Photovoltaic Ultra-Pure Water
• Applications: RO pre-treatment, papermaking white water recovery, printing and dyeing/textile wastewater fiber removal, food/ slaughtering protein recovery, oilfield reinjection water treatment.
• Target Customers: Electronic factories, paper mills, food factories, oilfields.
3. Food & Beverage Industry
• Applications: Dairy (whey protein concentration), fruit juice clarification, beer/liquor bacteria and turbidity removal, condiment sterilization.
• Benefits: It retains flavor, improves product quality, and replaces diatomite or pasteurization.
• Target Customers: Dairy factories, fruit juice factories, breweries.

4. Biomedical Industry
• Applications: Pharmaceutical process water bacteria and pyrogen removal, biological agent (enzyme/protein) concentration and purification, traditional Chinese medicine extract refinement.
• Requirement: The final product is aseptic and pyrogen-free.
• Target Customers: Pharmaceutical factories, biotech companies.
5. Special Water Treatment
• Applications: Swimming pool/landscape water circulation filtration, emergency water supply, seawater desalination pre-treatment.
• Target Customers: Emergency water supply units, seawater desalination plants, swimming pool operators.
Market Trends & Regional Characteristics
Domestic Market
• Driven by policies ("double carbon", water environment governance, reclaimed water utilization), UF is the core of MBR and advanced treatment. Its market size continues to grow.
• East China, South China, Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei are the main demand areas. Central and western regions are rising rapidly with the increase of environmental protection investment.
Overseas Market
• Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Africa have strong demand for cost-effective UF equipment. It is especially suitable for small and medium-sized municipal and industrial projects.
• Europe and the United States focus on high-end membrane materials and intelligent systems.
Technology Trends
Modularization/intelligence (remote monitoring, intelligent backwashing), anti-pollution membrane materials (PVDF, PTFE, hydrophilic coating), low energy consumption design (submerged negative pressure suction), concentrated water resource utilization have become the focus of competition.
